INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
An internship with the MWPC provides an excellent opportunity to see the women’s political movement in action, while at the same time allowing for the exploration of the different aspects of public service and a non-profit organization. We are looking for energetic candidates to assist in all aspects of the organization.
INTERNSHIP TIMELINES

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Intern roles are provided to guide the course of the internship program and tether intern responsibilities to our core mission. These responsibilities and outcomes may vary and overlap depending on circumstances and are not meant to limit the scope of MWPC’s internships in any way. Interns should be prepared to take on duties and may receive outcomes from each role listed. The program may include group outings and projects outside of scope of interest. Internships are unpaid, but students may receive academic credit. Interns must set and stick to a regular work schedule with a minimum 12 hours per week.
POLITICAL ANALYST
Min. 12 hour per week | Capacity: 5 interns
College Credit: We work with schools to ensure college credit is available, if applicable.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Gender Equality, or a related field, rising Juniors/Seniors preferred.
- Strong research and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Sense of responsibility and commitment to MWPC’s mission
Responsibilities
- Participate in outreach to candidates to facilitate endorsement process; attend endorsement interviews and take notes.
- Provide candidate support during election seasons including voter outreach.
- Provide support for key MWPC events.
- Other responsibilities will be assigned on an as-needed basis.
Outcomes
- Intern(s) will learn about each aspect of campaigning. Intern(s) will gain an understanding of effective political advocacy, non-profit organizational structure, and the PAC endorsement process. Intern(s) will gain valuable event planning and facilitating skills. Intern(s) will learn basic volunteer management skills.
OPERATIONS
Min. 12 hour per week | Capacity: 1 interns

Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Business Administration, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field, rising Juniors/Seniors preferred.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Sense of responsibility and commitment to MWPC’s mission.
Responsibilities
- Intern will support operations of the nonprofit through research and analysis of donor data and trends, membership data and trends, and other operations analysis.
- Intern will support the associate director in planning and operations.
- Other responsibilities will be assigned on an as-needed basis.
Outcomes
- Intern(s) will develop organization and tracking skills, and learn to manage competing priorities in an office setting. Intern(s) will learn to assist in planning and executing a variety of events ranging in size, formality, and purpose. Intern(s) will gain an understanding of effective political advocacy within a non-profit organizational structure.
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
Min. 12 hour per week | Capacity: 2 interns
College Credit: We work with schools to ensure college credit is available, if applicable.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Political Science, or a related field, rising Juniors/Seniors preferred.
- Strong research and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as needed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Sense of responsibility and commitment to MWPC’s mission
- This is a min. 12-hours per week, unpaid internship
- College Credit: We work with schools to ensure college credit is available, if applicable.
Responsibilities
- Draft emails to be sent to the MWPC list
- Create content and maintain MWPC social media, and track and report on social media analytics
- Work closely with the associate director to promote upcoming events and plan strategic social media content
- Other responsibilities will be assigned on an as-needed basis.
Outcomes
- Intern(s) will learn to use social media as an engagement tool, write using organizational message, and create attractive and consistent media. Intern(s) will gain skills utilizing email communication and CRM tools, and the ability to write in various styles ranging from informal to press release format. Intern(s) will gain an understanding of effective political advocacy and non-profit organizational structure.
